Metrosideros excelsa, commonly known as New Zealand Christmas tree, is a coastal evergreen tree in the myrtaceae family, that produces a brilliant display of red or occasionally orange, yellow or white flowers. The tree flowers from November to January. Average water needs, watering when the top 3 cm of soil has dried out. Fertilization once every 2-3 months during the growing season, trim the diseased, withered leaves any time. Needs excellent drainage in pots.
